National Accident Helpline comment on government plans to ban referral fees

9th September 2011

This morning the government announced that they intend to ban 'referral fees' - this is the technical term for the money some organisations charge for referring on personal injury cases to lawyers.

We would like to clarify that National Accident Helpline does not charge referral fees, we provide a marketing and call handling service to a panel of leading personal injury law firms. This distinction has been recognised by regulators since we were formed in 1993.

As the consumer champion for people who have suffered injury through no fault of their own, National Accident Helpline wholeheartedly supports a fully regulated, ethically operated, personal injury market. We also remain absolutely committed to providing access to justice and helping the underdog. This commitment is as strong today as when we formed National Accident Helpline 18 years ago.

We will continue to put the consumer at the very heart of our business and enable them to bring compensation claims where they have been injured through no fault of their own.

Regulated by the Ministry of Justice in respect of regulated claims management activities.
